The renewed confidence in the Australian beef industry has certainly flowed onto the seedstock industry with 1390 stud cattle nominated to compete at this year’s Royal Queensland Show.
And RNA beef cattle committee chairman Gary Noller could not be happier.
“It is really pleasing to see numbers increase by 299 head on last year’s impressive 1091 head that paraded before the judges, Mr Noller said.
“With 31 breeds represented, some of the best seedstock in the country will compete over the three days of stud cattle judging.”
On Thursday, August 10, 185 Santa Gertrudis cattle will parade before judge Darren Childs, Glenlands Droughtmasters, Theodore.
The 92 head of Droughtmasters will be judged under the eye of Renee Rutherford, Redksin Droughtmasters, Mornish. Renee will be assisted by associate judge Remy Streeter, Marlborough.
Andrew Chapman, Rowanlea Santa Gertrudis, Calliope, will tackle the 108 Angus cattle presented for competition.
Glen Pfeffer, Mogul Brahmans, Casino, NSW will officiate over the 74 Brahmans, and 10 Brafords nominated.
A total of 16 Bazadaise will parade before judge, Anthony Flint, Warwick. Mr Flint will then officiate over the 30 head of Speckle Park cattle.
David Reid, Reids Charolais, Kumbia, will officiate before the 71 Simmental exhibited, then tackle the five Simbrahs.
Mr Reid will also judge the six head nominated in the Blonde d’Aquitaine.
Victorian, Erin Waters, Andtravern Herefords, Lancefield, will judge the 20 Gelbvieh, and also the 19 Red Polls.
Donna Robson, Flemington Limousins, Adelong, NSW will officiate in the Brangus ring and sort through the 56 head nominated.
Paul Connor, Rosewood Charbrays, Mornish will judge the 17 head of Charbrays.
Breeds judged on Friday, August 11 include 121 Charolais judged by Nicole Nicholls, Tookawhile, Kyogle, NSW.
David Bondfield, Palgrove Charolais, Dalveen, will tackle the 111 head of Limousin nominated. Mr Bondfield will be assisted by Aimee Bolton as his associate judge.
The 95 head of Hereford and Poll Hereford cattle will be judged by Erin Waters, assisted by associate judge Lauren Bonici, from Western Australia..
The 69 head of Murray Grey will be judged under the watchful eye of Greg Ball, Singleton, NSW.
Hayden Green, Summit Limousins, Mittagong, NSW will officiate over the 54 Red Angus,
Claire York, Billa Park Simmentals, Dulacca, will judge the 11 Senepol , along with the four Romagnolas.
Anthony Flint, will take charge in the Devon ring with 42 head nominated, while Matthew Spry, Hillcrest, Tamworth, NSW will judge the 14 South Devons, along with the 20 Shorthorns.
Lucy Newham, Pandora Murray Greys, NSW has been assigned to the Square Meaters, and any other recognised breeds such as the Fleckvieh.
Once the breed judging concludes, Central Queensland cattleman, Brett Nobbs, NCC, Duaringa will judge the champion of champions interbreed.
The Ausline, Dexter, and Australian Lowline with be judge in the afternoon of Friday, August 18. These judges are yet to be announced by the RNA.
