JUST when you thought country wardrobes were only filled with long sleeve shirts and jeans one fashion savvy woman is adding a touch of class to western homes.
Boutique owner Lisa Kennedy packed up her city lifestyle and moved to Condamine 12 years ago to help her husband, Christopher, run his family’s property.
She stopped making jewellery she supplied for Brisbane stores and had two children, Finn, 9, and Jack, 6.
Noticing a niche opportunity to provide high end clothes, homewares and gifts to people in the bush she began filling a vacant room in an old bank building alongside the Creek Cafe at Miles with products.
Ms Kennedy is among a list of stallholders who will be on the sidelines at the Condamine Cods Annual Ladies Day on Saturday.
Ms Kennedy hadn't had any fashion or beauty experience but a childhood from the age of six spent around fabric and giftwares at her uncle’s store in Casino has evidently stuck with her.
She said boutique stores were more than just a place to buy and try on clothes and she is looking to expand by doing more pop up shops at rural events.
"My dream was to have a shop with a couch and people could get a takeaway coffee and not necessarily buy something but women would gather," she said.
"It has come to fruition but in a way I wouldn't of imagined. That's what happened in the Creek Cafe."
The stalls at the Cods Ladies Day include Potted Peace Nursery, 4 Little Ones, Smoke & Mirrors, Gidgee Smith Bags, Time In A Bottle and World Organics.
Entry into the Ladies' tent is $20 including nibble food.
“This year we're super excited to welcome special guest Doris the Vintage Van & Boutique Bar. She's going to have plenty of junk in her trunk to keep the ladies' thirst at bay,” the Condamine Cods newsletter said.
The Condamine Cods will take on the Goondiwindi Emus in the A and B Grade matches while the Chinchilla River Rats and Goondiwindi Emus will clash in the C Grade match.
The Condamine Codettes, Dalby Wheatchix and Goondiwindi will also take the field.
