Longreach business woman Joy McClymont has been named a finalist in the Queensland Telstra Business Awards.
Joy is one of six finalists named in the New Business category of the awards for her remote fitness business, Off the Track Training.
She said to be named as a finalist was very rewarding.
And while her Off the Track Training business had its infancy about 10 years ago, ‘”it really has been the past 18 months that I have really ramped it up,” she said.
Off the Track Training is virtual training program to provide better fitness opportunities for people living in remote, rural and regional areas.
Clients can sign up and be coached through video and phone sessions.
Joy said she was nominated by an external party, and then progressed through a series of three interviews, before being announced as a finalist.
She said first of all she was notified by the Telstra Business Awards that she had been nominated.
“From there, I then followed up the paperwork to accept and supplied both the personal and financial details of my business online,” Joy said.
“Judges of the Telstra Business Awards panel then flew to Longreach for a workplace inspection and interview about my business.”
Joy is looking forward to the opportunities the Testra Awards will bring to her business.
“If I am successful, I will be exposed to a lot of business training exposure support and advice, and proceed through to the national competition,” she said.
Joy lives with her husband Paul and their four children on Dalkeith, a sheep and cattle property 100km west of Longreach.
“The program is about trying to reinforce the idea rural women don’t need expensive gym equipment, or gym membership to exercise, they just need to get up and do it,” Joy said.
Telstra Business Executive Director Brendan Donohoe, said this year’s finalists were demonstrating what it takes to become ‘that’ business – a leader in their field, a name that is trusted and admired and being an organisation that inspires others.
“Many of the Queensland finalists are great examples of innovators and early adopters who have used technology to help them gain an advantage in the market,” Mr Donohoe said
“They show how technology is fundamentally changing the way businesses operate today and delivering enormous benefits.”
Telstra Business Awards celebrates 25 years this year and is the longest running program honouring the achievements of Australia’s best small and medium businesses and charities.
