It has been brought to the attention of police in Jundah that several residents of the Barcoo Shire have received phone calls from scammers alleging to be from well known software companies.
These scammers will then allege your computer has been sending error messages or has a virus.
The scammer will then request remote access to your computer to find out what the problem is.
They may then try to talk you into buying unnecessary software or a service to fix your computer, or alternatively, they may ask for your personal details and your bank or credit card details.
The scammer may sound very professional at first and they will also be very persistent. If they fail to get what they want, they may also become very abusive.
If you should receive a call like this, Jundah Police advise you to hang up straight away and under no circumstances give them any personal information.
If you have received one of these calls, given the scammers remote access to your computer and you fear your computer has been hacked, please contact a reputable computer technician.
If you shared your bank details with a scammer, please contact you bank or financial institution right away.
