Rockhampton City Moto’s new Dealer Principal Colin Lawson and his team will be shining a light on quad bike safety during the Rockhampton Show.
Mr Lawson has brought his quad safety knowledge from his time spent in the Atherton Tablelands was my area of expertise in the Tablelands, where the topic was his area of expertise.
“I’m hoping I’ll be able help increase awareness around the topic in Rockhampton, the beef capital of Australia, where quads are in heavy use on-farm,” he said.
Their are more than 380,000 quad bikes in use in Australia, so farmers know they’re a handy and efficient tool on the farm.
But Mr Lawson said more needs to be done about quad bike safety awareness across the state.
“The Qld Government is doing a lot of good work, but given the amount of fatalities and injuries that are still occurring on quads I think more money needs to be spent on getting the safety message out there.”
Rockhampton City Moto will be showcasing the latest innovations in quad bike safety during the show including the Shark X16 helmet designed specifically for quad bike use, and the Point Two quad vest.
The Shark X16 is the only “quad bike specific” helmet that meets the Australian Standard 1698. The helmet complies with the latest legislation in relation to registered quad bikes on roads or road related areas.
“The main points of difference between the Shark X16 and other helmets is that its lighter, its perforated around the ears so you can hear stock movement, and it provides better ventilation than a standard helmet. We expect to have them in-store by late June.”
The Point Two quad vest is a rider safety device that features a lanyard secured to the bike that is clipped to the driver. If the driver is thrown from the quad, the device inflates like an airbag.
“They’ll initially be available exclusively at Rockhampton City Moto towards the end of this month.”
He said at the display they’ll also have have information on-hand regarding the Queensland Government’s Ride Ready campaign which details how to keep safe on quads.
Mr Lawson said inductions and training are crucial for quad bike safety.
“If you have staff working in your operation who’re using quad bikes for day-to-day tasks we are more than to happy to discuss how we can assist in implementing safety systems on your quad bikes and side-by-side’s.
