A top field of horses and a large crowd of snappily dressed punters are expected for the popular Alpha Race Day, on Saturday, June 24.
Alpha Jockey Club secretary Anna Appleton said the event has received solid support since it began in 2013.
“We’ve had good solid numbers of guests come for the races and surrounding events each year. It’s a great community day for past and present Alpha locals and those from near and far to catch up,” Ms Appleton said.
An attractive prize pool of $72,500 plus QTIS bonuses will be up for grabs across the six race program, including $20,000 in prize money for the Alpha Community Cup Open Handicap.
Gates to the Alpha Jockey Club will open from 11am, with courtesy buses running back and forth from the club to the town all day.
Be sure to don your finest race-wear for the HHH Partners Fashions on the Field featuring $10,000 in cash and prizes.
Ms Appleton said a new format has been in place for this years competition to shorten the proceedings.
“There has been a reduction in the fashion categories, and the presentation of fashions will be conducted between the third and fourth races on the day.
“Nominations must be in by 2pm on the day for the Under-10 Boys and Girls, Under-17 Boys and Girls and Stylish Couples categories.
“Entrants for the other categories – which include the Young Entrant category for ladies and men aged 18 to 25; Man and Lady of the Track; Fanciest Footwear and the Millenery Award – will be selected from the crowd by the Fashions on the Field judges.”
She said there will also be entertainment available for the kids in the afternoon and live music from Bareback will keep the party going from 6pm until midnight.
A calcutta will be held on the Friday night prior to the races at the Alpha Golf Club, and a delicious Sunday Recovery Breakfast is available for those that take advantage of the free camping facilities at the club after the races, and all others wishing to attend.
