WHEN Tim De Long-Marchand, a Year 6 student with the Capricornia School of Distance Education, went along to see the Prime Minister in Emerald last week, he didn’t expect a handshake.
But that is exactly what the excited youngster received.
Tim, 11, lives near Yeppoon on his family’s hobby farm, but travels a lot – which is why he is studying via distance education.
“My uncle has a harvesting business and we go everywhere with him helping,” Tim said.
He said he had hoped to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister, but never expected to meet him.
“It was exciting,” he said. “I didn’t think it was going to happen.”
Tim admitted he does not know too much about the Prime Minister except his name, but said the opportunity to shake his hand was “pretty cool”.
The Prime Minister spent two hours at the Emerald community function, meeting locals, enjoying a barbecue and taking plenty of selfies.
