DEPUTY Leader of the Opposition Deb Frecklington has called on the Premier to do more than put on an Akubra and visit rural Queensland but instead make investments in the areas.
Ms Frecklington visited the Roma Store Sale today while in the Maranoa area meeting with local graziers and business owners since Sunday.
Her visit comes just a few weeks after Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk stopped into the selling complex to eat a “Prem Burger” and tour the saleyards.
While she indulged in a signature “Deb Burger”, Ms Frecklington said she would take a lot away from her visit particularly when it came to forming policies for future elections.
She said native vegetation laws and investment in the area were some of the biggest issues of discussion.
“Queensland(ers) are still reeling from the threat of the native vegetation laws, they are still reeling from the lack of infrastructure and in many areas the youth unemployment rate,” she said.
“The Premier comes out here to regional Queensland and tries to say that she is a government for all Queensland.
“Well I call on the Premier to rule out any changes to the common sense native vegetation laws as a first and then she needs to front up and actually spend some money in the regions.
“Not only commit to it, she actually needs to do it.”
She said the lack of investment in regional areas flowed into all industries and lifestyles and infrastructure was an important element.
