FORMER police minister Jo-Ann Miller has signaled she wants to return the Palaszczuk government ministry following the shock resignation of disgraced agriculture minister Leanne Donaldson on Thursday night.
The Bundamba MP, who also quit the ministry in disgrace in December, told media outside the black lung inquiry in Ipswich this afternoon that she had served sufficient punishment following her fall from cabinet in December.
Ms Miller did not indicate she was specifically interested the agriculture and fisheries portfolio which is regarded as the most junior ministry in the Palaszczuk administration.
Ms Miller chose to resign as police, fire, emergency services and corrective services minister after parliament’s ethics committee found she had engaged in “pattern of reckless conduct” in December. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk had already indicated Ms Miller was to be stripped of her responsibilities.
Since then Ms Miller has been a significant challenge for the Palaszczuk government, embarrassing several Labor ministers with probing questions particularly during budget estimates.
Adding weight to Ms Miller’s push was she was accompanied at today’s media conference by CFMEU heavyweight Andrew Vickers who endorsed the Bundamba MP.
Ms Miller is part of Labor’s Left Faction which lays claim to the vacant cabinet position created by the departure of Ms Donaldson.
