A total of 5272 head were yarded at Dalby cattle sale on November 2 - a 33 per cent increase on last week’s yarding. Overall quality was generally good with a big number of bullocks from western border areas included in the line-up.
The usual panel of buyers were present and most were operating. Lightweight yearling steers and heifers returning to the paddock experienced very little change in price. Medium weight yearling steers to feed also sold to strong demand while the heavyweights to feed varied in price according to quality.
Medium and heavy weight yearling heifers to feed mostly sold to within 3c of the previous sale. Heavy grown steers to export slaughter averaged 14c less while a lift in the quality of the bullocks saw average prices improve. Prices for cows varied in places however over all generally sold to a firm market.
Calves returning to the paddock made to 410.2c/kg to average 385c. Lightweight yearling steers to restockers made to 429.2c to average 401c. Medium weights to feed made to 392.2c with the largest numbers around 359c. Heavyweights to feed averaged from 336c to 340c with some to 354.2c.
Lightweight yearling heifers returning to the paddock averaged 360c with some to 382.2c. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 332c and made to 358.2c while local trade lines averaged 313c with the occasional sale to 346.2c. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 340.2c to average 312c.
Heavy grown steers made to 310.2c to average 290c while bullocks made to 305.2c to average 294c. A large sample of full mouth bullocks from far western areas averaged 277c and made to 289.2c. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 222c and 3 scores 231c. A large selection of good heavy cows made to 250.2c to average 242c. Heavy bulls made to 270.2c.
