It’s the home of one of western Queensland’s biggest race meetings and now Bassett Park could be receiving a further refresh, with Council having endorsed final detailed designs of an extension to the members’ bar, deck and grandstand.
Once funded, users of the facility could look forward to enjoying the races ‘alfresco style’ with a deck to extend out from the members’ bar.
The deck and bar area would also extend to the south, connecting to the grandstand.
The addition of a hydraulic lift with dual doors, would see all residents and visitors able to enjoy the view and festivities upstairs.
Although funding of this project is subject to future budget deliberations, having the designs finalised as part of the overall Bassett Park Master Plan is another exciting step forward for the project.
Councillor Cameron O’Neil, Portfolio Chair for Facilities and Chair of the Bassett Park Advisory Committee said the endorsement of these designs put Council in a good place to secure further funding and therefore continue making advancements to the complex.
“These designs, if implemented, would see improvements undertaken to make the facility more user-friendly and visually pleasing,” Cr O’Neil said.
“An important feature of these designs is the addition of a wheel-chair access lift to the grandstand area.
“Having a facility that can be accessed by all of our residents and visitors is a priority for this project.
“I am thrilled to see Council further progressing the endorsed Bassett Park Master Plan, a plan that saw significant community consultation; ensuring the vision was driven by our community and user groups.
“The implementation of the overall plan has been underway for some time and will continue for years to come.
“I’d like to commend the staff for the passion they have shown to the plan and this facility in particular. As a Council, we are very happy to see the stages progress.”
