HER domination in the show arena has resulted in an exceptional fine-wool ewe, exhibited by Wurrook, Rokewood, Vic, crowned Australian supreme champion ewe following a trifecta of wins.
The two year-old’s accumulated wins in the past month, including supreme Merino Australian Sheep and Wool Show (ASWS) and Ballarat sheep show, and grand champion ewe at Sheepvention Hamilton, delivered her the top title.
Repeatedly praised by judges for her “big bulky fleece”, the “magnificent ewe” had a 17.5 micron fleece with a standard deviation of 2.5 micron, 14.3 per cent coefficient variation (CV) and 99.7 per cent comfort factor (CF).
It brings the tally of Wurrook’s run of supreme wins at major shows to eight in a row, including their grand champion Merino ram win at Sheepvention in 2015.
Sheepvention’s grand champion ram was sashed to a fine-wool exhibit paraded by the young powerful performers Coryule, Willowvale, Vic, which was founded in 2009.
Stud manager Craig Trickey showcased the 23 month-old ram which weighed 132 kilograms.
The 17.1m ram recorded a standard deviation of 2.7m, 15.8pc CV and 99.9 per cent CF.
Sired by a Pemcaw ram, he was an embryo transfer son of a Coryule ewe which had won grand champion restricted ewe at ASWS, Bendigo.
Mr Trickey attributed the win to sound genetics as well as the expertise of nutritionist San Jolly.
“This is right up there – it is the best we have ever done,” he said.
Orrie Cowie was the Most Successful Exhibitor of the show taking home 12 broad ribbons.
