MAGIC Millions is now accepting entries for its 2017 Yearling Sale Series.
On the back of delivering the biggest and highest grossing yearling sale in Australasia in 2016, Magic Millions managing director Vin Cox has promised breeders the company will continue to keep it real in 2017 in pursuing the best sale ring outcome for yearling vendors.
“Our success begins with the real support of our vendors. We consider our achievements this year a direct outcome of their support. Whether it be the Gold Coast in January, March or June, Perth or Launceston in February or Adelaide in March, the Magic Millions Yearling Sale Series has a market for every level of yearling.
“A growth of almost $34 million (24 percent) in overall yearling sales gross illustrates the depth of the buying bench we are able to assemble across the board, and therefore bring real competition to the sale ring,” Cox said.
Conducting six yearling sales across four states of Australia, the Sale Series offers the world’s richest and most innovative Race Series featuring an annual $10 million raceday, as a real marketing benefit for selling yearlings through Magic Millions.

Weir sets training record
VICTORIAN trainer Darren Weir has set a new Commonwealth training record of 335 winners in a season after Gun Case won the McMahon's Dairy Handicap (1000m) at Moonee Valley on Wednesday, July 13. The Ballarat-based trainer eclipsed the previous benchmark of 334 winners in a season established by Sydney trainer John Hawkes in the 2002/2003 racing season. Weir and jockey Michelle Payne achieved international recognition when Payne became the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup aboard the Weir-trained Prince Of Penzance.
Late QTIS registrations accepted
RACING Queensland has announced that late QTIS registrations will be accepted until Friday August 12.
This change has been made after consultation with Thoroughbred Breeders Queensland Association. As with last year’ extension there will be a $200 penalty fee required in addition to the final payment. Black Caviar foal named
THE first foal of unbeaten world champion sprinter Black Caviar has finally been given a name.
Racing.com reports the rising 2YO filly by Exceed And Excel has been aptly named Oscietra after one of the world's most prized and expensive types of caviar.
Part-owner Pam Hawkes said the ownership group would get together to decide who would train the valuable filly and which stallion Black Caviar would visit next. “Because Oscietra doesn't look like being an early 2YO we haven't pushed a decision. We'll choose whoever we think is the most suitable for the filly," she said.
Apart from Oscietra, Black Caviar also has an unnamed weanling colt by Sebring and is currently in foal to high profile Arrowfield stallion Snitzel. Trained by Peter Moody, Black Caviar (Bel Esprit/Helsinge) is recognised as one of Australia's greatest ever racehorses whose perfect record of 25 wins without defeat, including a remarkable 15 at Group 1 level, is unprecedented in Australian racing history. She also heads the all-time prize money list for Australian sprinters with $7.36 million in earnings.
