The ALC Brahman bull sale held on-property at “Gundaroo” Nebo by vendors Alf and Louise Collins on July 5 was the most successful yet.
The sale achieved a 100 per cent clearance, and also created a sale history top price of $19,000 and a record average of $4763/head for the 100 bulls sold. Prices paid for the bulls sold ranged from $3000 to $19,000 in the Helmsman auction system.
Mr Collins said the average was up $548 on last year’s sale, which he said was reflective of the current buoyant cattle market.
“The weather was unseasonably warm and the grass was unusually green for this time of year so the bull’s coats were shiny and they presented really well,” he said.
“We’re very happy with the sale result and find it gratifying to see commercial cattleman putting value on the performance and fertility data we supply on our purely grass fed sale bulls.
“We put a huge emphasis into collecting data and analysing our herd to get meaningful data to aid us in selecting the best genetics to drive profits.”
The top priced bull of the sale ALC15-1252 was purchased by Consolidated Pastoral Company’s Allawah Brahman Stud for $19,000.
The polled 23-month-old bull, has a Days To Calving EBV of -9.1, Jap Ox $ Index of 42 and Live Ex $ Index of 40, all of which are in the top 10pc for the Brahman breed.
This coupled with four generations of impeccable fertility data and EBV’s on the dam’s side made for an in-demand animal.
CPC also purchased the second highest priced bull on the day for $15,000. He had well above Brahman breed average for growth, scrotal size and days to calving EBV’s as well as above average Jap Ox $ Index and Live Ex $ Index’s.
Buyers on the day were an even mix of new and repeat clients, comprising of family owned and operated commercial businesses as well as major stud and commercial pastoral companies.
Mr Collins said there was a clear focus among the buying gallery for fertility and performance data on grass based genetics.
“The huge demand for ALC genetics this year gives us confidence that our genetics are contributing positively throughout Australia, as low cost production off grass, is what will keep our businesses viable into the future.”
All bulls were presented straight off grass in pens of 10-15 head where buyers had plenty of time to make selections under the Helmsman Bid System.
“The naturally gentle disposition of bulls saw them settle in immediately as buyers commented once again on how well the bulls handled a large crowd of people walking among them for the first time.”
“The support from those who attended our sale is sincerely appreciated and we thank you all very much.”
