There are always plenty of smiling faces at the Landsborough Flock Ewe Show at Muttaburra but now they’ll be extra-wide, thanks to good falls of rain in parts of the district.
Late on Wednesday afternoon the organisers made the decision to postpone the show from this Saturday, June 4 to the following Saturday, June 11.
“It was disappointing in one way but the rain was very welcome,” president Boyd Webb said.
“It would only take 10 points and it would be too muddy. It’s been slow rain and there’s been little run-off, plus they’re forecasting more.
“We were very lucky that our caterers could still come the following weekend, and most events will still go ahead – I think we’ve got most bases covered.”
Boyd said the change might mean that some showgoers were now unable to attend, but it might also bring new attendees.
Although it has been 54 years since the society’s inception in 1962, only two shows have been cancelled since then, one in 1971 because it was too dry and then in 2012 because it was too wet.
“There has been tremendous support for all the shows in the region this year, when people are in their darkest hour – people have really stood up and put out,” Boyd said.
“We’re looking forward to the same, whenever it’s held. We’ll be welcoming people with big smiles on our faces.”
Other good falls in the region this week include Glenavon, 60km north of Aramac, which measured 91mm, Acacia Downs, 100km north of Longreach, who had 75mm, and Overton at Aramac, where 97mm poured down.
