THE Kalkadoon Community Pty Ltd has teamed up with an Australian organic fashion designer to capture the Kalkadoon country and youth in a calendar.
Zuhal Kuvan-Mills is the artist, designer and earth ambassador for Green Embassy, Australia’s first internationally recognised organic fashion label.
Kalkadoon board director, Tara Bell, said the organisation researched Green Embassy and believed it was the perfect fit to be featured in the calendar.
“The concept of Green Embassy worked perfectly with the concept of the calendar ‘Beautiful People, Beautiful County’” Ms Bell said.
“We emailed Green Embassy and were surprised by the response received from Zuhal. She offered to provide pieces from two collections and organise her whole team to travel to Mount Isa.
“Zuhal's team includes her photography artist from Sydney: David Collins, her make-up artist and hair stylist from Perth and also one of her professional UK runway model to mentor the girls during the week.
Ms Kuvan-Mills and her team arrived in Mount Isa last week and toured the area, including: Heywood Granite Mine and Lake Moondarra.
“I am glad that the Kalkadoon Community invited myself and my team to come and help showcase the beauty of Kalkadoon youth and country,” Ms Kuvan-Mills said.
“My featured collection includes 100 per cent certified organic Australian alpaca, merino, silk and recycled natural fibres. My handmade collections are earthy yet sublime, authentic yet edgy.”
The calendar was fully funded by various Kalkadoon organisations.
Ms Bell said the calendar was aimed at building confidence in youth and promoting health and wellbeing.
“Zuhal is pretty big in the fashion industry and has been involved in fashion shows all over the world and is currently organising International Perth Eco Fashion Week and is working on a new collection.
"We hope that this opportunity also opens new doors into the industry for our youth and continues a working relationship with Zuhal and her team.”
The calendar will cover an 18 month period from July 2016 to December 2017 and should be released during NAIDOC week in July.
