Mareeba Combined Agents penned a total of 537 head for this week’s Prime and Store Sale, an increase of around 163 head, mostly good condition.
Meatworks cows attracted the interest of another export slaughter processor to attend this week’s market. The sale was attended by three local wholesale processors, two export processors and a larger than usual panel of local growers and fatteners.
Competition on all slaughter lines was strong, however last week’s top 258c/kg for a heavy ox was not eclipsed. Local wholesale cows improved by around 13c/kg for the best on offer. Export slaughter cows gained 2c on the previous week with many lots selling from 180-205c. Slaughter bulls with the extra competition improved by 21c. A nice run of young Charbray and Brahman steers from Lakeland received plenty of interest, selling to values about 30c above last week’s best of 260c.
