A total yarding of 1224 cattle came to hand at Elders Harristown Saleyards on May 16. The market improved for all lines of quality cattle with cows up 10-12c dearer. Best bulls from Guluguba topped at 257.2c/kg. Bullocks from Pilton Valley in pen lots sold for 285.2c/kg to return $1909. Feeder steers from Crows Nest topped 286.2c/kg. Heavy heifers in limited supply to 271.2c/kg from Back Plains. Best heavy cows from Linthorpe to 235.2c/kg with cull Friesian cows to 227.2c/kg from Ramsay. Best trade steers in pen lots from Schelberg Farms, Mt Tyson 409kg sold for 313.2c/kg and heifer portion made 294.2c/kg. Lightweight feeder steers ex Pittsworth topped at 326.2c/kg. Pens of cow and calves at $1090.
TOOWOOMBA PIG SALE
Numbers halved to 100 pigs on Monday, May 16. Pork and bacon were firm on last week while sows sold cheaper. Store pigs sold similar to a little dearer across the board especially the heavy stores. Prime Pork $240, Prime Light Bacon $220, Prime bacon $210, Boars $50, Sows to $240, Stores $170, Weaners $85 and Suckers $54.
