There was a yarding of 4390 at Dalby on Wednesday, a fall of 23 per cent on last week. Buyer attendance was generally good and included exporters from NSW and Victoria. The usual feeder buyers were present however not all were operating. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed fell in price by a further 8c to 10c/kg. The handful of heavy grown steers and bullocks held firm due to the southern competition, however, despite support from the south, cows could not maintain the price of the previous week and lost 4c to 9c/kg.
Medium weight C2 yearling steers to feed slipped 10c to average 283.3c while heavy weights to feed returned between 268.2c and 289.2c to be 9c/kg cheaper. Medium weight C2 yearling heifers also to feed slipped 4c, reaching 277.2c and averaging 270.6c/kg.
Processors purchased medium weight C3 grown steers for an average of 274.1c while C4 grown heifers were 9c dearer on 239.3c/kg. Light weight cows to restockers jumped 20c to average 195.5c while medium and heavy weight cows to slaughter were cheaper, with medium weights easing 9c to average 203.8c and heavy weights back 4c to average 216c/kg.
