A wide load and narrow highways temporarily held up the 250-strong Burrumbuttock Hay Run to Ilfracombe on Friday morning.
Due to depart Wyandra at 6am, they were given a directive to wait until a wide load had travelled down the Mitchell Highway from Charleville.
By 8.30, it still hadn’t made an appearance on the highway at Wyandra, halfway between Charleville and Cunnamulla, where the convoy had pulled over for the night, and the word was passed around that the convoy finally had right of way.
The two-and-a-half hour delay is expected to put the mercy mission into Ilfracombe towards the end of the day, after 5pm.
