THE sleepy village of Garah was buzzing with race fever recently, with the annual Talmoi Picnic Race Meeting drawing visitors from across NSW and Queensland.

Held at the Garah Racecourse, the event is one of the oldest on the racing calendar, and certainly one of the most popular on the social scene.

Conditions were perfect for a great day of racing, with the unseasonably warm weather adding to the atmosphere and a large field of local horses delighting local punters.

The R Hunter Memorial Talmoi Picnic Cup was a highlight of the day, with local horse, Chart, racing home for the win.

Trained by local man Campbell Roberts, the gelding was owned by the local Spot Racing Syndicate of Andrew Parkes, Andrew Crowe, Peter Weal, and Tony Bailey.

Fashions were flaunted off the field, with a bit of bush dust unable to deter even the most well-heeled of visitors.

Ruth Matthews of Moree won Best Dressed Lady, while Peter Birch of Moree won Best Dressed Man.
