UPDATED: THE 2013 Rockhampton Brahman Week Sale at CQLX Gracemere has kicked-off on a high note with the sale of a grey bull for $72,000 on Monday.
The horned 23-month-old FBC El Toro Manso, offered by Tony and Joanne Fenech and family’s Fenech Brahmans, Wowan, bought by Don and Julie Hurrell, HH Park Grey Brahman stud, Gympie.
The 894kg bull was sired by FBC D Mr Arnie Manso and out of FBC D Ms Jess De Manso.
He had a P8 of 13mm, rib fat of 9mm, and eye muscle area (EMA) of 140 sq cm.
Day one of the three-day sale saw a total of 244 bulls sold to average $6147 for an 89 per cent clearance and gross of $1.5 million.
Second top of day one was the $34,000 Carinya Tony, offered by John Kirk and family, Carinya Brahmans, Gayndah, and bought by Brett Nobbs, NCC Brahmans, Duaringa.
The 21-month-old, 815kg horned bull was by Carinya Durban and out of Carinya Spice.
He had P8 and rib scans of 8mm and 6mm respectively and an EMA of 140 sq cm.
A total of 864 bulls are being offered at this week’s sale, with grey bulls on Monday, grey and red bulls on Tuesday, and red bulls on Wednesday.
