SINCE 1988, the Wilangi Invitation Brahman sale has been held at Charters Towers and the predictability and reliability of the bulls is the drawcard for many buyers who return ever year.
The 2015 event featured 237 bulls from principal vendors, Wilangi, Anglewood and Wallace Cattle Co and invited vendors, Glengarry, Lanes Creek, Raglan and Viva.
NCC stud principal, Brett Nobbs paid $21,000 to top the sale for Wallace Mr Mint listed by Stewart and Kerry Wallace, Wallace Cattle Co, Brigalow, Clarke Creek.
"He's beautifully put together with a smooth, even muscle pattern and just so well balanced," Mr Nobbs said.
"He'll fit into my program really well."
"Stewart and Kerry (Wallace) are good cattle people with good practical cattle."
A 786kg, 26-month-old, two tooth, Wallace Mr Jones son, Mr Mint scored 10mm and 6mm in fat scans and measured 136sq cm eye muscle area (EMA) and a 41cm scrotal.
The young sire had plenty going for him on his dam's side too.
Wallace Lady Jaye is an El Ja Amos A Manso daughter that at five years of age has calved twice and been tested PTIC. Alistair and Pam Davison, Viva Brahmans, Lumeah, Middlemount, were also fans of the progeny of Wallace Mr Jones, paying $15,500 for the first sale son ever offered, Wallace Mr Mc Coy.
Mr Mc Coy weighed 846kg at 27 months of age and the milk tooth sire scored 14mm and 8mm in P8 and rib fat.
Robert and Mandy White's, Wilangi Alexander, a 39-month-old, El Ja Buster R Manso son was initially passed in for $13,000 but sold before the completion of the sale for $14,000 to Brett and Sue Kirk, Hazelton Brahman stud, Middlemount.
Invited vendors, Brian and Cindy Hughes, Lanes Creek stud, Georgetown, sold a 33-month-old, JDH Wellington Manso and Lanes Creek Endure son to Stewart and Kerry Wallace, Wallace Cattle Co for $9000.
Wilangi Allo Allo,a 33-month-old, 850kg, two tooth, registered lot was purchased by John, Cheryl and Terry Randell, Crinum Brahmans, Tieri for $9000.
John and Leanne Creedon, Leajon Park Brahmans, Middlemount, took home a 26-month-old, Wallace Mr Jones son, Wallace Mr Miller for $8500.
Steve and Mary Lund, Talki, Clermont, purchased two bulls at the sale including the $8500, Maru Javas Manso son, Glengarry Master Card.
Mr and Mrs Lund run a commercial operation on 16,000 hectares of buffel country north of Clermont and are re-injecting Brahman into a herd that has developed into Charbray in recent years.
"We were all Brahmans but we started using Charolais bulls over Brahman cows and we've gone too far Charbray.
"We're Brahmanising again," said Mr Lund who also purchased another registered Glengarry sire for $6000.
Richard and Gaye Luck, Junee Station, Middlemount, selected Raglan Nemo for $8500.
A 33-month-old, four tooth, PBF Gunmetal Manso son, Nemo weighed 890kg and scored 11mm and 8mm in P8 and rib fat.
Raglan Napier, also listed by Andrew and Roxanne Olive, Raglan Station, Raglan, sold to Judy Day, Marylands, St Lawrence, for $8500.
Napier is a 30-month-old, PBF Rutherford Manso son that weighed in at 860kg, measured an EMA of 135sq cm and scored 12mm and 8mm in rump and rib fat.
An impressive display of genetic confidence from station manager, Neil Arnold, Vanrook Grazing, Vanrook, Normanton, saw the savvy young buyer take home 58 bulls for the average price of $2344.
Steven Ellison purchased 22 bulls on behalf of the Indonesian owned, Willeroo Station, Katherine NT for the average price of $2295.
The Neill-Ballantine family of Galloway Plains, Calliope, averaged $4000 for their 12 bull purchases and Patrick Sheanan, Valley of Lagoons, Ingham, choose eight bulls for the average price of $3125.
Other volume buyers included the Shephard family, Croydon, Graeme Fitchett, Tirrabella, Mt Garnett, Fleetwood Grazing Co, Mittagong, Croyden, Ross and Lisa Cullen, Marlua Station, Calliope, and Mick Nobbs, Mt Vexation, Springsure.
Buyers were drawn from the Northern Territory, central and northern Queensland in another strong Wilangi Brahman sale.
