AN injection of enthusiasm in the Western Santas sale lifted the Barcoo Santa Breeders sale to the impressive average of $5476.
Running second in the batting order but starting the second day of selling, the sale attracted a strong crowd who came ready to play.
Topping at $12,000, polled bulls averaged $6018 for 27 bulls.
The 21-month-old, polled, classified ‘S’, Drensmaine Beacon listed by Len and Helen Sargood, Tambo, was purchased for $12,000 by repeat buyer, Ben Avery, Allandale, Blackall.
Mr Avery, who uses Santa Gertrudis bulls in a commercial cross breeding operation, selected two bulls at the sale for the average price of $9500.
Classified bulls averaged $5430 while herd bulls enjoyed an average of $5633.
Peter and Bella Elmes, Plevna Downs, Augathella, paid $10,000 for the 24-month-old, Drensmaine Bogan, a polley scurred, Rosevale Bingo grandson.
The Elmes family averaged $8000 for two purchases.
The Drensmaine prefix averaged $6764 for 34 lots.
The Nobbs family, Yandaburra, Springsure, selected an 846kg, 23-month-old herd bull by Strathmore Yogi for $9500.
Bob Murphy, Everton, Aramac paid $9000 twice at the sale to secure a pair of young Drensmaine herd bulls.
Forest Park bulls averaged $4064 for 31 lots and paid to a top of $6500 for Forest Park Graphite, a 22-month-old, classified ‘S’ offering purchased by Andrew, Fay, and Alec Nugent, Toliness, Charleville.
Ross Miller, Coreena, Barcaldine purchased two bulls at the sale including the $8000 Drensmaine Boss, a polled, Strathmore Yogi son.
Jeffrey, Jacky, Damien and Sally Campbell, Currawarra, Mitchell averaged $3500 for their five bull purchases.
Michael and Danielle Butler, Athol, Blackall purchased five bulls for the average price of $3200.
Peter Hughes, Thurloo Downs, Wanaaring, NSW, averaged $4125 for four bulls.
The Crowther family, Harrow, Injune paid the average price of $6333 for three bulls.
