CALL it a hometown advantage, but Travis Luscombe of Ace High Fitting Service is getting good at winning at FarmFest.
The Toowoomba-based cattle fitter notched up his third straight champion led steer trophy earlier today with his purebred black Limousin, Summit Panda.
More affectionately known as Sox due to his white-touched rear hooves, the 536kg steer was bred by Hayden Green, Summit Livestock, Mittagong, New South Wales.
Led steer judge Ross Milner, Yeppoon, described the steer as "near enough to a perfect steer for a butcher".
Sox has made a stellar start to his show career having snared a champion ribbon at Gympie Show a fortnight ago.
But the big test will come in about two months time.
"Hopefully we're on track to get him into the Ekka in August," Mr Luscombe said.
The led steer section attracted some 117 entries, the biggest number to date.
"Led steers on the Darling Downs are getting stronger and stronger," Mr Luscombe said.
"It's great to be on the pointy end when it comes to getting the broad ribbons.
"The way the cattle market is at the moment, these big steers are worth a fair bit of coin."
Mr Luscombe also won the most successful exhibitor trophy.
