A PHONE call on Monday announcing she had won the Queensland Country Life and Clipex cattle-crush competition came just in the nick of time for Debbie Hughes (pictured).
Mrs Hughes, husband Stan and son Christopher Hoppe run a mixed farming operation at Bevell-Dean, Yarranlea, on the Darling Downs.
They graze Friesian heifers and beef cows, and also have Australian Stock Horses, Clydesdales and working border collies.
Mrs Hughes said it was great to hear she had won a cattle crush and that the new piece of equipment was desperately needed.
“We purchased our place about 18 months ago and the crush is very old and home-made,” she said.
“We were doing some cattle work on Sunday using the crush and you had to be very careful if a beast jumped around a bit because the side gates would fly open unless someone was holding them, and the head bail was broken.”
The Clipex 600 series cattle crush comes with complete chin bar.
Its heavy-duty concertina head bail is nylon bushed for silent and maintenance-free operation.
