COW prices of 200c/kg for the first time ever in the Blackall yards are heralding big things to come for the cattle market, according to Ray White Livestock Blackall manager Paton Fitzsimons.
Just on 2700 head were offered at the monthly sale at Blackall today.
“It was good from start to finish,” Paton said. “Never before have cows made $2 here, and it’s only the second time in my 15 years at Blackall that bullocks have made over $2.”
A line of 600kg bullocks were sold for 204c/kg.
A Rockhampton Borthwicks representative was operating at the sale for the first time in two years, indicating a tightening of supply at meatworks.
“All the stars are aligning,” Paton said. “You’ve got a massive shortage of killable cattle, a falling dollar and rain beginning to fall over parts of the country.”
