GREG and Kel Kelly could not wipe the smiles from their faces on Friday morning when their champion steer sold for $7200 to the Eatons Hill Hotel at the Ekka.
At $15 a kilogram for their Charolais-cross, this was five times more than the average prices fetched at the prime stock cattle sale.
The Kellys, Juandah Grazing, Giligulgul, Guluguba, won the champion local trade weight for a single steer in the prime cattle competition the previous afternoon.
The sale also saw positive results for Travis Luscombe, Toowoomba, who won champion single steer for his Limousin-cross steer.
The Breakfast Creek Hotel bought the steer for $7.30 a kilogram, totalling $5139.
