UP to 100 young farmer and agribusiness professionals are expected to attend the free GEN XY Farmers Workshop in Goondiwindi on September 10.
Hosted by NAB Agribusiness in partnership with Insight Business and Financial Services, Queensland Cotton and Objective Livestock Marketing (OLM), this year’s workshop features an impressive line-up of speakers including Andrew Jurgs, Philp Brodie Grain, Tim Wilson, Blue Sky Investments and Denis Wagner, Wagners, Toowoomba.
NAB Agribusiness manager Sarah Short was the driving force behind the first GEN XY workshop five years ago and said the event had quickly become popular with Goondiwindi’s progressive farming and agribusiness community.
She said previous GEN XY events had attracted up to 100 people working in a range of ag related industries including farming, finance, machinery sales, retail and the legal sector.
“The primary purpose of the workshop is to give attendees confidence, information and inspiration to take the reins of their own businesses,” she said.
“In the past the workshops have covered topics such as commodity markets, basic accounting, financial planning advice, interest rates, applying for finance, off farm investing, succession planning and the labour market.”
Mrs Short said the committee had invested plenty of thought into selecting their 2014 workshop speakers.
“In the past we have used speakers from our own organisations however this year we have broadened our thinking to look outside the box,” she said.
Mrs Short said Andrew Jurgs from Philp Brodie Grain would provide an insight into what his daily duties involve as a trader.
“He will also have tips for growers when marketing their grain or commodity,” she said.
“Andrew is well known in this district and is looking forward to the opportunity to inform the younger growers in the room.”
Next on the speakers list is Tim Wilson, the Managing Director of Blue Sky Investments. Mrs Short said Tim was responsible for leading a private equity team, sourcing and negotiating deals, advising portfolio companies on financing, entry and exit negotiation and building the Blue Sky group’s network.
“Tim was involved in floating the company in recent history,” she said.
Mrs Short said the GEN XY committee also believed the Wagners story would resonate well with the audience.
“The Wagner family have worked extremely hard to grow a family business into a highly successful global operation we know today,” she said.
“Denis will be telling the Wagner Story and also expanding on taking risks and executing a business idea rather than shelving it. We are looking forward to hearing the process of the Wellcamp Airport Project and opportunities for the community in and around Goondiwindi.”
The workshop begins at 4pm, Wednesday September 10 and will be followed by BBQ dinner at 7pm.
