Lilydale Charolais Invitational tops at $18,000

Strong competition saw all 44 bulls sell to a top of $18,000 to average $9136, and 19 from 20 females sell to a top of $10,500 to average $5881, for a total clearance of 99 per cent.

In a breakdown of the females, four cow and calf units were offered, topping at $10,500 to average $8750, three cows were offered, selling to a top of $7000 to average $5166, and 12 heifers were offered, selling to a top of $5000 to average $3729.

Bird Hill Rasputin, a bull from Jim and Janice Spreadborough, Bird Hill, Blenheim, achieved the top price of $18,000, selling to Shane Schultz and family, Blenheim.

The 22-month-old polled bull weighed 980kg and was by Elder's Blackjack and out of Bird Hill Katie2.

Rasputin has a scrotal circumference of 46cm and an eye muscle area of 142 sq cm.

Second-top Reids Rocco was offered by David and Helen Reid, Reids Charolais, Kingaroy, and sold to Rodney Cahill, Carinya Hills, for $17,000.

This bull was by Reids Nelson N3E and out of Reids Digit K12E.

Judith Turner from Jay Tees, Merrimac, sold the equal top priced females, selling cow and calf unit Jay Tees Quality to Hayward and Smith, Allora, for $10,500, and cow and calf unit Jay Tees Quite Emotional to Natasha Schultz, Sandy Ridge, Blenheim for $10,500.

Ms Turner also sold the top priced cow, selling Jay Tees Quando to DMSF Farming for $7000.

Jim Spreadborough, who was standing in for lead vendor Ross Sticklen, said it was the best sale in the invitational's 15 year history.

"All the vendors are really happy with the sale results. Everything went smoothly, the agents looked after us very well, and the females sold well," Mr Spreadborough said.

"The weather was against us during the season. We had a hard time preparing bulls, but it all went well in the end."

Mr Spreadborough said in the case of Rasputin, his weight, scans and pedigree had plenty of bidders interested.

"A fair few stud buyers were there to look at him mainly because of his weight for age and his scan figures. He's just a beautiful, special bull. Elders Blackjack seems to be putting some handy calves to the ground," he said.

David and Helen Reid sold 12 bulls to average $10,083, and Ross Sticklen, Lilydale, sold 12 bulls to average $9208.

Greg and Kel Kelly, Juandah, Guluguba, sold nine bulls to average $7777, while Natasha Schultz sold six bulls to average $6583.

Jim and Janice Spreadborough sold four bulls to average $12,000, and Coopers Rd Properties sold one bull for $13,000.

Singhs Enterprises bought three bulls to average $6833, Stewart Wallace purchased three bulls to average $8833, and T Cahill picked up three bulls, averaging $6833.

Buyer support came from Rockhampton, Nobby, Dayboro, Wandoan, and more locally from Toogoolawah, Esk and Kilcoy.
