Longreach is living up to its reputation as a proud rodeo-loving region with a long rodeo and campdrafting history this weekend as the Road to Rodeo gets underway in the outback Queensland town.
Just days after a deluge that brought floodwaters to the outskirts of town, locals and guests alike are getting a taste of the legendary Mount Isa Mines Rodeo experience.
It's brought all the signature ingredients of the iconic event - rodeo action and live rodeo rock - to town as part of a series that aims to create four new annual rodeo events across Queensland by 2024.
According to Isa Rodeo Limited CEO Natalie Flecker, that represents a long-term economic injection to the state of over $4m.
Road to Rodeo Longreach features a full rodeo competition, including bullriding in four divisions, open and second division saddle bronc, open and second division bareback, open rope and tie, steer wrestling, team roping, ladies barrel racing, ladies breakaway roping and mini bull rides
