Prices held up at this week's Roma store sale, with improved quality across the yarding.
Numbers lifted by 2639 head on last week, with a yarding of 4086, highlighted by several lines of quality steers and bullocks.
Once again, there were significant numbers of north western cattle on display, as well as bigger lines of locally bred cattle.
All processors were back in action after the Easter period and there was a keen buying panel competing for restocker numbers.
In a further breakdown of the sale; lightweight yearling steers under 200kg averaged at 755c/kg, topping at 755.2c/kg, up 110c from last week, while restocker steers under 280kg averaged 685c/kg and reached a top of 768.2c/kg, an improvement of 73c/kg.
Medium weight steers under under 330kg also improved on last week, selling to restockers for a top of 754.2c/kg, achieving an average of 634c/kg, while yearling feeder steers under 400kg made to 618.2c/kg and averaged 558c/kg.
Heavyweight feeder steers were in abundance across the yarding, selling to 568.3c/kg and averaging 518c/kg.
Heifers also improved significantly despite a smaller number on offer, with light weight yearling heifers under 200kg selling to restockers for a top of 712.2c/kg and averaging 703c/kg, improving by 32c/kg.
Heifers under 280kg averaged 606c/kg and achieved a top of 644.2c/kg, up 37c/kg, while medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg also sold to restockers for a top of 622.2c/kg and an average of 584c/kg.
Yearling heifers under 400kg saw a top of 638.2c/kg, averaging 608c/kg, and heavy weight feeder heifers also jumped significantly, making a top of 535.2c/kg and an average of 515c/kg.
A selection of PTIC cows sold to restockers for a top of 392.2c/kg, while medium weight prime cows averaged 371c/kg, topping at 375.2c/kg.
Heavier prime cows topped at 377.2c/kg and averaged 369c/kg, and a draft of local cows and calves made to $3675/unit.
Vendors Scott and Karina Martyn sold 45 head of Simmental cross steers to John Ferguson, who has bought cattle from the Martyns in the past.
The steers sold to a top of $2183, averaging $2079 per head and 636c/kg, and 28 head of Simmental cross heifers averaged 622c/kg and $1956 per head, achieving a top of $2036.
The Martyns are based north east of Roma and sell straight off the cows regularly, generally from April through to June.
Mr Martyn said they were having one of the best seasons he had seen, with decent rainfall while being well understocked.
"This is probably one of the best calving seasons, weight wise, that we've ever had," he told Queensland Country Life.
The grazier said he was really happy with the way his cattle sold, saying that "you definitely can't complain" about current market prices.
Northern vendors continue to send cattle to Roma, including Bushy Park Pastoral, Mt Isa, who sold a line of Droughtmaster cross steers to a top of $2280, averaging $1797, and DF and DM Jones, Glenlyon, Richmond, with a line of Brahman steers, reaching a top of $2404, to average $2142.
Making the trip from Alice Springs, Australian Green Properties, Murray Downs Station, also sold a mob of Droughtmaster cross steers, averaging $1871 and making to a top of $2241.
