Following on the heels of successful debut result in 2021, excitement is brewing for the second annual Qld State Goat Breeders Sale again being held at the Charleville Showground from 11am on Monday, May 16.
A draft of 156 head will be offered, comprising 105 bucks and 51 does, including 4 embryo lots, across 145 quality lots. This year's drafts have been selected by returning vendors: Springvale Reds; Macanda Boers; Gundare Lane Boers; and Catlok Goats. They'll be joined by first-time sale vendors: Gundi Boer Goats; Leawah Reds; and Channel Country Reds.
Sale coordinator Emma Patterson, said the 2022 sale draft is an impressive and exciting, quality line-up from Queensland's leading seedstock breeders, who've selected lots offering performance genetics, structural correctness and fertility.
"There will truly be an animal for everyone. There will be elite registered bucks and does through to bucks bred for commercial relevance as hardy, meat producing animals," Ms Patterson said.
"There are also penned lots (bucks and does) to suit volume buyers, as well as four feature lots, two bucks (lots 2 and 3) and two doelings (lots 101 and 102), these top performance goats are from the keeper pen of the Springvale Reds herd," she said.
The 2021 sale saw all 126 lots sell for a total clearance, while 112 bucks in 93 lots averaged $1821 to hit $4800, 32 does in 29 lots averaged $2222 peaking at $8100, and four embryo lots averaged $765 to reach at $1800.
Since the 2021 sale it has been another remarkable year for the goat industry with solid commercial prices and more sale records broken over the course of the past 12 months.
This surge of interest reached a high point at the Cobar Red and Black Goat Sale, in November of last year, where a new Australian record top price for a buck, a new record top price for a red doe and a new record top for a black doe, were recorded.
"It has been great to hear of the end of the drought in many regions and strong grazing conditions for many areas. It's also wonderful to hear about the optimism and confidence from producers despite the challenges COVID-19 has presented."
