COVID-19 is rapidly spreading throughout the South Burnett region, with over 160 active cases in the district as of Tuesday morning.
Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council released a statement stating that majority of the active cases were Cherbourg residents, with 90 people testing positive.
Health officials recorded another 60 cases in Kingaroy, nine in Murgon and three in Nanango.
The rapid rise in cases comes after many South Burnett residents travelled over the Christmas and New Year's period before returning to the region and testing positive.
A cluster has emerged from a New Year's Eve event held at the Royal Hotel in Murgon and attendees with symptoms have been urged to get tested.
The South Burnett Regional Council Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) met on Tuesday, along with the Cherbourg LDMG and the District Disaster Group to discuss the increase in cases and how to address the situation.
South Burnett Council Chair Roz Frohloff told residents of the region to not panic and consider whether they would be prepared for isolation if need be.
"Ask yourself, do I have enough supplies of necessary medications, should you need to self-isolate for seven days," Councillor Frohloff said.
"Purchase only what you need to ensure there is sufficient supplies for everyone.
"Don't forget to check on your relatives and your friends, particularly the older and health-impaired in our area. If they are self-isolating, do they need any assistance?
"If you are showing any signs or symptoms please make contact with Queensland Health to arrange a COVID-19 test."
There are testing sites across the region including Nanango, Murgon, Cherbourg and Kingaroy hospitals.
Despite there being no lockdown orders or plans to enforce one, Councillor Frohloff encouraged everyone to stay at home unless absolutely necessary.
"Please ensure, unless you must travel, it is in everyone's best interest that you stay home," she said.
Cherbourg council members also encouraged all unvaccinated residents to get their jab as soon as possible and for those eligible to get their booster to do so at first availability.
