Brahman bullocks return $3129 at Charters Towers

The prime cattle consisted of 659 bullocks, 78 heifers, 277 cows and 169 bulls.

Store cattle consisted of 874 steers, 533 heifers and 33 cows and calves.

Cattle comprised of larger runs of good quality bullocks and heavy feeder steers, selling to a very competitive buying panel, with a smaller yarding of females selling to unchanged rates.

The yarding was drawn from Tully, Richmond, Hughenden, Collinsville and Julia Creek along with local and coastal areas.

Bullocks were quoted 15c/kg dearer, heifers were unchanged, cows were 2c/kg dearer, and bulls were 10c/kg dearer on the previous week's rates.

Steers and bullocks under 500kg sold to 560c and averaged 528c, and those over 500kg topped at 508c to average 481c. Heifers up to 540kg topped at 494c, averaging 439c. Cows under 400kg made 400c and averaged 355c, while cows over 400kg reached 436c, averaging 397c. Bulls 450-600kg made 482c and averaged 419c, while bulls over 600kg reached 430c to average 365c.

Bullocks topped at 500.2c/kg for a pen of very good quality no.9 grey Brahman bullocks sold on a/c Laroona Pastoral that weighed 626kg to return $3129 a head.

A run of 289 no.9 heavy feeder steers a/c Philipson Holdings averaged 544c/kg, 440kg returning $2400/hd.

Best priced trade heifers were presented on a/c WD 19 Pty Ltd that sold for 494c/kg, weighing 440kg to return $2174/hd.

The top pen of cows were sold by WD 19 Pty Ltd for 406c/kg, to weigh 535kg and return $2173/hd.

Bulls sold on a/c RB Grazing, topped at 430c/kg and weighed 603kg, to return $2595/hd.

Store cattle were made up of mixed quality cattle consisting of mainly smaller consignments, which sold to a very strong panel of southern buyers, resulting in an increase in prices across the board, with significant interest in light weight cattle.

Steers under 200kg reached 835c to average 790c, steers 200-320kg sold to 790c, averaging 681c, steers 320-400kg topped at 640c and averaged 550c and steers over 400kg sold to 562c to average 549c. Mickeys under 450kg sold to 750c, averaging 585c. Heifers under 200kg topped at 798c and averaged 716c, heifers 200-320kg sold to 706c, averaging 555c, heifers over 320kg topped at 512c, averaging 499c.

A pen of 15 steers a/c Toomba Grazing made 590c/kg, weighed 323kg returning $1908/hd.

A line of 22 steers sold on a/c Bluegate Pastoral made 824c/kg, weighing 175kg to return $1442/hd.

A pen of 23 Calton Hills mickey bulls made 736c/kg, weighed 191kg to return $1405/hd.

A pen of 12 heifers sold on a/c Rivercea Pty Ltd made 512c/kg, to weigh 338kg and return $1732/hd.

A line of 30 heifers on a/c Matt McClymont sold for 798c/kg, weighing 97kg, returning $774/hd.

A pen of five cows and calves sold on a/c D and H Stevens, returned $2800/unit.
