The Christmas spirit started with a bang at Mitchell last Thursday when the community turned out in great numbers for the annual Christmas in the Park evening.
Run jointly by the Booringa Action Group and the local Rotary Club, it had been rescheduled from Monday, thanks to storms at the start of the week.
Although some from out of town were still cut off by floodwater on Thursday, the wet start to summer in the area lifted the mood dramatically.
BAG president Rob Cornish said it was the 25th year of the joint venture, only missing last year, and spirits were much higher than through the years of drought that had been endured.
As well as presentation from some of the 48 young dancers, market stalls and a jumping castle, Wallumbilla's Russell Dewhurst entertained the crowd with his singing, thanks to a donation of drought relief money.
Mr Cornish reported a busy year for BAG, which has run the artesian spa in Mitchell for the last three years.
Numbers were well up, 59,000 visitors, compared to the 8000 who used the spa the previous year.
