Rural photographer Trina Patterson has always liked to be creative and when her husband Tim bought her a Nikon camera for Christmas in 2014 she turned her hand to photography.
"I used to draw and paint, but these days I carry a camera at all times as I believe some sort of creativity is good for your brain and mental health," she said.
A speech from renowned rural photographer Fiona Lake is still her greatest piece of advice.
"Fiona told us if you have to explain your pictures you shouldn't have taken them - so you don't leave it open to the wrong interpretation," she said.
"I really want my photographs to tell a story, and help bridge the city and country divide through a positive image."
Trina is mainly self taught but she did attend a Rolleston photography group workshop on two occasions and has Googled photography information.
"I really try to tell a positive story on our life on our 5300 hectare beef and cropping property Bottle Tree Downs situation south of Rolleston," she said.
"We have the most magnificent backdrop onto the Carnarvon Ranges and they are a beautiful blue which changes colour throughout the day.
"I don't take the camera when I am on horseback, but when I am in the buggy, or on a water run, the camera comes too."
Her photography has attracted the attention of many. AgForce asked her to provide images for its trade display at Beef 2021.
"I sold three including one which was bought by AgForce cattle chair Will Wilson and was presented to Agricultural Minister Mark Furner where it takes pride of place in his Brisbane office," she said.
It was also at Beef 2021 where she met the editor of RM Williams Outback magazine who has commissioned her work.
Trina has won awards in the Central Highlands Regional Council Art Award, and her photographs have been selected for the Rural Aid calendar. Last year she hosted a combined photography exhibition which travelled from Injune, onto Springsure and Rolleston.
