Pure Gold Pineapples are driving a new campaign to raise breast cancer awareness in support of the McGrath Foundation.
Launched earlier this month, the 'If you Grow 'em, Know 'em' campaign was designed to put a fun spin on a very serious message about the importance of breast awareness year round.
With around three quarters of McGrath breast care nurses located in regional and rural Australia, Pure Gold Pineapples have committed to donating a portion of their sales to help fund McGrath Breast Care Nurses.
The McGrath Foundation currently has 171 funded nurses providing free physical and emotional support to breast cancer patients and their families.
Pure Gold Pineapples general manager Anthony Dobson said as a regional business, he could understand the challenges breast cancer patients faced living in rural and remote areas.
"We want to help ensure that all patients, regardless of where they live, can access the care they need," he said.
"So many of our team have been affected by breast cancer and know all too well the significant impact this has on Australian families and everyone across the organisation, from the growers to the office staff, we are all passionate about supporting McGrath Breast Care Nurses."
McGrath Foundation ambassador and director Tracy Bevan was grateful to Pure Gold Pineapples for helping them share this important message.
"We encourage women to learn how to check your breasts, and most importantly, to seek medical attention if you notice anything unusual," she said.
"Early detection of breast cancer while it is still small and confined to the breast provides the best chance for treatment to be effective.
"It's so important that if you find a lump or notice any changes to your breasts that you seek medical attention straight away."
Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer in Queensland, with one in seven women in Australia being diagnosed before the age of 85.
The pink boxes of Pure Gold Pineapples proudly supporting the McGrath Foundation are available for purchase at all major supermarkets.
Pineapple growers in Central and Southern Queensland are also gearing up to host their own Pink Stumps cricket day in February 2022 as part of the campaign.
Bungundarra pineapple grower Ryan Brooks, Brooks and Sons, has been supplying produce to Pure Gold for a number of years and was proud to be a part of the initiative.
"I've got two friends that are going through breast cancer right now, both with young families," he said.
Mr Brooks will be hosting a Pink Stumps cricket day at the Yeppoon showgrounds on February 12 in support of the McGrath Foundation.
"When the McGrath Foundation started with Tropicals last year I said 'what if we could organise getting a day for McGrath through the cricket club', so that's how it came up and in two weeks we had raised nearly $3000 for the foundation," he said.
"We raised a bit of money last year through donations, raffles and bar profits, but this year it's going to be three times as big.
"Anything we can do to help, It's a good cause to get behind."
Mr Brooks encourages anyone that's in Yeppoon on February 12 to head down to the showgrounds to have a cold beer, watch some cricket and get behind a good cause.
