The supply of stock reduced by 146 head to 315 at Monday's Toowoomba cattle sale.
The usual panel of export processors, feeder operators and trade buyers were in attendance and operating, plus a large line-up of local and interstate restockers.
A good quality selection of young cattle came forward, plus a small sample of heavy grown steers and bullocks, and there was a wide variation in quality in the small sample of cows.
Prices responded to the lift in the standard of young cattle, with a number of classes improving in price. Heavy grown steers bullocks and cows experienced strong support for the quality penned.
Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to a top of 736c to average 621c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 568c to 581c with sales to 601c, with some to restockers reaching 610c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed average 466c and made to 500c/kg.
Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock made to 568c to average 536c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed averaged from 503c to 525c with sales to 558c/kg.
A handful of bullocks made to 428c to average 427c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 353c, with the best of the heavy weights making to 387c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 400c/kg.
Best bulls sold to 400c returning $3760. Best cows sold to 387c returning $2608.
Bullocks topped at 428c to return $2826. Heavy feeder steers sold to 601c returning $2422 for six pens.
Trade weight heifers to slaughter sold to $1906. A line of 25 Angus weaner steers sold to 610c to return $2128. Lightweight Angus steers a/c Baden Brown, Thornville, topped at 736c to return $1582.
