Primary producer, meat retailer, political advisor and senator for Queensland, Susan McDonald, spoke at the Rural Press Club of Queensland's lunch in Brisbane on Friday marking International Day of Rural Women.
Senator McDonald is one of the foremost voices questioning food labelling laws and what terms such as 'plant-based chicken, beef and pork' mean for the nation's red meat industry.
The former owner of Super Butcher is now chair of the Senate's Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Committee which is holding a senate inquiry into meat category branding.
Senator McDonald provided an update on the inquiry and an overview of the issues surrounding currently labelling laws around vegan products.
The Rural Press Club's next event recognises National AgDay on November 19.
Rural leader Bryce Camm will speak on what it takes to navigate the global pandemic, lead a growing agribusiness and what lies ahead for Australian beef.
