Light weight yearling steers and heifers returning to the paddock continued to climb to new high levels.

The number of stock penned at Dalby on Wednesday remained very close to the previous week's level at 4360 head.

Similar to the previous week, cattle were drawn from a wide area including a small sample from NSW and SA plus 1311 head from Cameron's Corner in Far Western Queensland.

Buyer attendance was good including interstate representatives from export processors as well as restockers.

Light weight yearling steers and heifers returning to the paddock continued to climb to new high levels. The light weight steer portion averaged 20c/kg better, while the light weight heifers were noticeably dearer. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to very strong demand for the quality penned.

Yearling heifers to feed averaged 5c to 18c/kg dearer. Heavy grown steers and bullocks were in demand pushed on by local and interstate processors to improve in price by 16c to 28c/kg. Cows generally sold to a dearer market with the largest samples averaging 9c/kg better.

Yearling steers under 200kg to restockers made to 772c to average 733c/kg. A large selection of yearling steers under 280kg returning to the paddock made to 738c to average 636c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 546c to 561c with sales to 605c, with some to restockers reaching 618c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 518c to average 504c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers made to 712c to average 641c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg averaged 574c and sold to 638c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed averaged from 519c to 533c, with sales to 580c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 482c and made to 528c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export processors made to 450c to average 436c, and the bullock portion made to 428c to average 421c/kg. A large sample of full mouth bullocks from the far west made to 412c to average 403c/kg.

Plain condition cows returning to the paddock made to 387c to average 353c/kg. Good condition cows to processors made to 390c with a large number of heavy weights averaging 380c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 383c/kg.
