When Carinya Sugarcrata (IVF) (H) rocketed to a $150,000 top price on day two of Rockhampton Brahman Week Sale, the packed buying gallery wouldn't have been surprised to hear the Kent, Camm and Scott family names ring out as winning bidders.
Buyer Lawson Camm, Cambil stud, Proserpine, said "when you're on a good thing, you stick with it", and that's why they chased the son of NCC Sugarwood (ET) (H), who also sired the group's $180,000 purchase, Nicneil Sugar Daddy (IVF) (H), at the RBWS last year.
"His pedigree and sire line is something we like a lot," Mr Camm said.
"He's a bull that's got a wonderful temperament, he's got a lot of breed character, which is what we're looking for, he's a very sound sort of bull, good on his feet and legs, and he's a bull with some pigment which we're looking for as well.
"He ticks a lot of boxes for us and what we're looking for."
The syndicate of the Cambil stud, the Kent family's Ooline stud, Goovigen, and the Scott family's Rosetta Grazing, Collinsville, is a young venture, but they're already seeing the benefits.
"We feel that it's a way for us to get into a higher end of the bull market and spread the risk," Mr Camm said.
"We're on the same wavelength, have the same ideas, so it's starting to work out really well.
"We'll work it the same way we did with Sugar Daddy; he'll obviously go and collect some semen first and I think he'll move onto Ooline first and cover some cows, and then move to the next part."
Offered by John Kirk, Carinya stud, Gayndah, the 22-month-old out of Carinya Holly 8/1567 (H) attracted an opening bid of $20,000, with consistent finger waves and head nods rolling in until the figure raced past $100,000 and saw no sign of slowing.
Tipping the scales at 905 kilograms, the sire prospect measured 38 centimetres in scrotal circumference, and scanned 13mm and 10mm, respectively, for P8 and rib fats, 144 square centimetres for eye muscle area, and 4.8 for intramuscular fat percentage.
The Carinya draft also achieved the second-top price in the grey section of the catalogue on day two, with a $90,000 outlay from the McCamley family, Palmal stud, for Carinya Etna 0/270 (IVF) (H).
Sired by JDH Mr Encino Manso 612/6 (IMP US) (H), the 22-month-old weighed in at 855kg and measured 38.5cm in the scrotum.
In total, 202 grey bulls were offered and sold on day two, to average $13,460 and gross $2.719m.

Not to be overshadowed, the red draft that went through the ring on Tuesday afternoon cleared all 99 bulls for an average of $20,455 and gross of $2.025m.
Topping that section was Y3K Galaxy 0013 (IVF) (PS), knocked down for a $100,000 bid to the Randell family, Crinum Brahman stud, Capella.
Sired by Banana Station Manly 69 (IVF) (PS) and out of Y3K Dancing Queen 7013 (PS), the 24-month-old weighed 930kg, measured 41.5cm in the scrotum, scanned 15mm and 13mm, respectively, for P8 and rib fats, 143sq cm for EMA, and 5.4pc for IMF.
They also paid $55,000 for the bull prior, to secure Galaxy's full brother Y3K Sir Gregor 0006 (IVF) (PP).
Buyer Terry Randell said he'd picked out Sir Gregor, while his dad was keen to take Galaxy home.
"The first fella (Sir Gregor), it was mainly his terrific sirey head and he's a PP bull, that's what drew me to him," Mr Randell said.
"And when Dad came and looked at them, he preferred the carcase of the second fella (Galaxy), he's a bigger, heavier bull, longer and straighter.
"We couldn't come to a compromise, so we took both."
