Heifer prices nearly matched steer rates at Laidley on Thursday.

There were 516 head sold at Stariha Auctions Laidley cattle sale on Thursday. Prices hit new levels this week, with southern, western and local buyers all competing for a quality yarding of cattle. Female rates were greatly increased, with heifer prices nearly matching steer rates.

John O'Dwyer, Laidley, sold Charolais cross steers for $2390 and Angus cows for $2650. Wayne Hanson, Thornton, sold a line of Charbray heifers, 15 months, for $2210. The Lehmann family, Coolana, sold pens of cows for $2420 and $2300. N and L Davenport, Laidley, sold Murray Grey heifers for $2420 and $2000. Bruce Cameron, Silver Ridge, sold pens of Droughtmaster and Brahman steers for $2460, $2300, $2190 and $2110.

The Morris family, Gatton, sold a pen of Droughtmaster cows for $2020 and cows and calves for $2860. Mick and Maree Coogan, Mt Whitestone, sold a Limousin bull for $2510 and weaner steers for $1590. Craig Horsfield, Wivenhoe Pocket, sold eight to nine-month-old Speckle Park heifers for $1700. Andrew Lerch, Laidley, sold Charolais feeder steers for $2170 and $2100. David Lyons, Thornton, sold a pen of Droughtmaster milk tooth steers for $2110.

W Carkeet, Coominya, sold Droughtmaster steers for $2010. Bernard Mahon, Stockyard, sold Limousin backgrounder steers for $1910 and heifers for $1680. David Harris, Borallon, sold Angus steers for $2030. Willian Deane, Westvale, sold lines of Charbray yearlings, with steers making $1790 and $1740 and heifers $1730 and $1710. Ian McDonald, Fernvale, sold a line of Angus steers, nine to 11 months, for $1700.

Clarence Smith, Flagstone Creek, sold Brangus weaners, with lines of steers making $1670 and heifers $1600. LC Livestock, Tarampa, sold lines of Charbray and Droughtmaster weaners for $1705, $1555 and $1505. Langara Holdings, Mulgowie, sold milk tooth Santa heifers for $1890. Daniel and Alison Curtin, Mt Whitestone, sold Charbray weaners, eight to 10 months, with steers making $1650 and heifers $1390.
