It was a momentous week for Ivan and Amanda Burcher of Binara Poll Herefords, northwest of Goondiwindi, hosting their inaugural bull sale online from September 15 to 17.
Prior to the sale, the draft of 27 two-year-olds was viewed at a bull inspection open day.
Bidding on the catalogue was steady for the first couple of days, but with Friday's midday deadline looming, prices climbed to a top of $13,500 to average $6842.
Overall, 19 of the 27 bulls sold for a 70 per cent clearance.
Clive Golden, Dragoncrest, Yuleba, bid the $13,500 for the sale topper Binara Quantum Q070, which weighed in at 840 kilograms.
Sired by Yavenvale Lieutenant L076 out of Courallie E96 Snowflake J503, Quantum had an eye-muscle area of 130 square centimetres, P8 and rib fat depths of 10 millimetres and 8mm respectively, and an intramuscular fat percentage of 4.9.
Bruce Johnson, Arbroath Grazing Co, took home the second top-priced bull, Kalem Quinten Q013, for $12,000.
Sired by Allendale Anzac H182 out of Kalem Blanche J56, Quinten tipped the scales at 940kg and had an EMA of 136 sq cm.
P8 and rib fat depths were measured at 14mm and 11mm, while his IMF percentage was 5.8.
The volume buyer was Bruce Proud, Baronga Cattle Company, Roma, who purchased four bulls to average $6250.
Amanda Burcher said she and her father were very happy with the result and were raring to go for next year.
"We are thrilled with the result and are already looking forward to the 2022 sale with a quality line up of young sires," Ms Burcher said.
"We would like to thank the successful purchasers, the under bidder, the team at PJH and Pen Bateman for helping make this sale a success.
"The open day also proved to be a very enjoyable day, with clients inspecting the sale draft and a portion of the cow herd."
Ms Burcher said the couple who bred Quinten, Trevor and Pearl Saal, had been in the stud game for 50 years.
"Now both in their 90s, it's rewarding for them and a testament to their life long dream and commitment to the whiteface breed that they can produce a quality bull like Kalem Quinten Q013."
