The market improved considerably at Murgon on Tuesday.

There was a strong market at the Murgon SBLX saleyards on Tuesday. The market improved considerably despite deteriorating seasonal conditions in the Burnett area.

The yarding consisted of 850 head of cattle drawn from local areas as well as Mt Perry, Gayndah, Mundubbera, Kilkivan, Auburn and the Brisbane Valley.

There was very strong buying support from the usual processors and feedlots as well as Darling Downs, North Burnett and NSW buyer representatives.

Export cattle found strong support from processors and prices were pushed along by store buyers on the second grade cows and steers.

Heavy cows sold to 364.2c/kg, $2367/hd to average $2258. Cows 500-600kg made 356.2c/$2119 to average $1902. Diamond L Charbrays and Charolais sold cows to NSW processors for 327.2c weighing 597.5kg to realise $1955. Droughtmaster cows from Kilkivan sold to SEQ processors for 364c, weighing 650kg making $2367.

Charolais steers from Wangella, Kilkivan, topped at 700.2c weighing 160.7kg for $1125. Second top steers were a good run of Brangus steers from Yerilga, Mt Perry, that sold to NSW buyer reps for 698.2c weighing 199.6kg for $1394. A great run of heavy weaner Santa Gertrudis steers sold for 668c with the heifer portion making 572c.

Store heifers were in strong demand topping at 610.2c weighing 199.6kg to return $1394 for a run of Brangus heifers from Mt Perry and going to NSW buyer reps.

A good run of PTIC cows from Stuart Apel, Mt Auburn, sold for $2010/hd to Kelly Bros from Boat Mountain.
