It was a successful day out for the three studs represented at the Belmont Australia bull and female sale at CQLX on Monday.
All 35 bulls were sold for an average of $10,228 and a top of $26,000, while the two females made $5000 each.
It was Robert and Jane Sherry's Wahroonga RJS200047 that topped the sale, knocked down to return clients Lachlan and Trudy Mace, Red Ridge Grazing, Stanage Bay.
The 22-month-old by Tremere TRE140173 and out of Corymbia COR130047 tipped the scales at 688 kilograms, measured 41cm in scrotal circumference, and scanned 124 square centimetres for eye muscle area, 8mm and 12mm, respectively, for rib and rump fat, and 4.6 per cent for intramuscular fat.
Mr Mace said a number of things drew him to the top bull.
"His carcase attributes are the best in the mob, he's got a really good topline, and you can see he's an easy doing bull and his EBVs (estimated breeding values) reflect that," he said.
"He's got a good low birthweight EBV and of course the docility is always there.
"We're trying to finish a grass-fed article, steers, in the paddock, so we cross the Belmont Reds over Angus cows."
Next at $20,000 was the 22-month-old Wahroonga RJS200091, bought by Colin Anderson, Pomegranate Creek, Middlemount.
Weighing in at 718kg, the homozygous polled son of Tremere TRE140173 and Corymbia COR130002 measured 41cm in the scrotum and scanned 6.1pc for IMF, 130sq cm for EMA, and 7mm and 10mm for rib and rump fat.
The two heifers offered by Greenhills stud were snapped up by Andrea Patch for $5000 each.
Putting together the largest draft was the Price family, Price Cattle Co, Arcadia Valley, with seven bulls bound for their coastal country at an average of $6857.
Owen Price said the bulls would go over a mob of cows at Greenlake.
"We're trying to increase the fertility in the indicus cows we've got, so that's why we're buying Belmont bulls, and we like that they're moderate framed," Mr Price said.
"We're only new to the Belmont cattle but we've bought Sherry bulls before and they've proven themselves, so we're going to give them a try on coastal country because this is where they come from and where they do well."

Rodney Perrett, Rolleston, selected four sire prospects for an average of $12,000, Sonoma Grazing also took four to average $8000, and MB Rural purchased three to average $8333.
Wahroonga stud principal Robert Sherry thanked the volume buyers, some of who were return clients and others who were new, for their faith in the Belmont Red bulls.
"I thought all three vendors had well-presented bulls with great figures, all the information there that anyone could ever want, and I think the buyers appreciated that," he said.
"It was a good result, a solid sale right through and I think that reflected the even line of bulls.
"I wasn't really expecting any dazzling ones, but we got a couple, and I thought it would be a very consistent sale with consistent prices."
The Wahroonga stud offered and sold 30 bulls to average $10,400. Paul and Julie Watson, Greenhills stud, sold three bulls for a top of $10,000 and average of $7666, as well as the two heifers for a $5000 average, and Ian Stark and Jeanne Seifert, Seifert stud, sold two bulls to a top of $15,000 and average of $11,500.
