THE Bureau of Meteorology says there is a high likelihood of an early rainfall onset across most of northern Australia for the 2021-22 season.
BOM says climate influences include the negative Indian Ocean Dipole, and a cooling of the tropical Pacific Ocean.
The situation for western Western Australia is less certain. BOM says there are roughly equal chances of an earlier or later rainfall onset for that region.
According the latest three monthly outlook, rainfall for spring (September to November) is likely to be above median for Queensland, the Northern Territory, NSW, south-east WA, South Australia, , Victoria and eastern Tasmania (greater than 60 per cent).
BOM says much of the eastern states show a greater than 80pc chance, as does eastern parts of the NT and SA.
Conversely, parts of western WA and south-west Tasmania are likely to have below median rainfall (chance of exceeding the median is less than 40pc).
BOM is also predicting rainfall for October to December is likely to be above median for the eastern half of Australia, and below median for north west WA.
