Carnarvon Droughtmaster sale set to be a classic

Sale group committee member Jane Barton said 75 bulls, including 52 registered and 23 herd bulls, have been selected for the sale by highly regarded Droughtmaster studs: Oasis, Huntly, Medway, Calco and Karragarra.

"Each vendor has prepared a draft of bulls that will suit those looking for a stud sire right through to a very nice line of commercial bulls," Mrs Barton said.

"There will be a draft of select sires to start the sale off. This select sire draft will be made up of four bulls from each stud that are considered the standouts of their respective drafts.," she said.

Mrs Barton said the the path to the sale being realised came about when the group were approached by Rolleston Saleyards owner/operator Jeff York to see if there would be any interest in starting a local Droughtmaster bull sale.

"There seemed to be quite an interest in the breed from surrounding properties and we saw a gap in the market. We were able to put together a group of like minded vendors with great passion in their stud breeding."

She's hoping the sale will attract buyers from all over Central Queensland through to the Southern Downs.

"All of the vendors have been able to offer a lineup of bulls that would compete with the sire ability of their line of bulls presented at any Droughtmaster sale."

As an added incentive for prospective buyers, the bidder who makes the overall top price bid of the sale will take home a Nu-Tank 100L portable diesel tank.

Inspections of the sale lots can be made anytime from 2pm on Monday, September 20, through until the sale begins.

Interested parties who're unable to attend the sale in-person can watch the sale unfold and bid through the Elite Livestock Auctions online platform.

The Rolleston Saleyards will be complying to all Covid-19 regulations required. Hand sanitiser will be available to all visitors to the complex.

Mrs Barton said the sale catalogue utilises the QR coding system.

"There are QR codes for each stud, our website, sponsors websites, as well as the Elite Livestock Auctions page.

"Hard copy catalogues will be sent to any persons requesting one from Elders Stud Stock or by messaging the Carnarvon Classic Facebook page. The online catalogue is available to view at carnarvonclassic.com.au."

At the sale, Kate McCamley and fellow Rolleston residents will operate the saleyards canteen in a bid to raise funds for RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

"These organisations provide crucial, at times life-saving, services for people in rural areas. My family alone has been assisted by both services in the past so I wanted to give something back," Ms McCamley said.

"The Carnarvon sale vendors were totally on board with the idea. They were more than happy for me to look after the catering on sale day. I'm so grateful to these vendors, as these organisations need all the support they can get," she said.

Proceeds raised at the Carnarvon Classic, and two further sales being held at the Rolleston Saleyards on September 13 and September 20, will be evenly split between each organisation.
