Records are set to be broken and that's certainly what happened at the Roma Store Sale on Tuesday when Jeremy and Julie Shaw of JS Grazing at Injune offered a line of 180 replacement heifers that sold for a top of 894c/kg.
With an average weight of 299.4 kilograms the heifers, which were weaned four to six weeks ago, sold to a top of $2644 a head to average $2557.
Buyers included repeat clients Campbell and Kerry Ann Tonkin, Barraba, NSW in partnership with Bill and Amelia Servin, Wandoan who finished with four pens while Bassett Cattle Co, Roma, and Gary Johnson of Dulacca Transport secured the balance.
The Shaws manage their renowned Millah Murrah blood herd over an aggregation of four properties in the Injune district, and until last year turned all progeny off as weaners.
"Last year we moved from selling all steers and heifers to just offering a line of replacement heifers," Mrs Shaw said.
"We have reinstated our feedlot and feed our steers for the Coles domestic 100-day market."
