The state final of the Queensland Country Life Showgirl Awards has been postponed following the lockdown order for the South East Queensland region.
Organisers of the event met with the Executive of Queensland Ag Shows this evening and decided to postpone the 2021 state finals due to get underway at the Ekka next week.
The 11 finalists from across the state were set to kick off their program from 2pm on Tuesday, just before the proposed lockdown would end. They were to undergo a number of networking and professional development events before the winner was announced next Saturday afternoon.
But the uncertainty surrounding current COVID-19 restrictions left the committee with no other choice.
"We made this decision with all stakeholders in mind, particularly the health and wellbeing of our state finalists who were due to arrive in Brisbane prior to the proposed end of the current lockdown conditions," a statement said.
Further details will be announced but it is hoped the state finals can be rescheduled later in the year.
Last year's state final was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic meaning the reigning Queensland Country Life Showgirl is 2019 winner Clare Stark (Webb).
All other Queensland Ag Show state competitions including the Rural Ambassador final are set to start after 4pm next Tuesday and a decision on those events will be made in the next 24 hours.
